Michael Laing OBE

Michael is the owner, managing director and a gemmologist.

As much a designer as he is a businessman, Michael studied art, design and craftsmanship at Sir John Cass College in London. He then went on to train with a number of well-known jewellery manufacturers.

For over 20 years, he has served on the National Association of Goldsmiths’ Education Committee in London. Latterly, he has been its Chairman, overseeing jewellery-trade training in the UK.  He has been a Fellow of the Gemmological Association since 1973.

He was Chairman of the Assay Office Scotland for 19 years, which tests and hallmarks gold, silver and platinum, the oldest form of consumer protection in the world. Indeed, it was for his services to hallmarking that he received his OBE.

He has owned PARKHOUSE since 1996 and is totally committed to what he calls “the pursuit of excellence”. During his tenure as MD, PARKHOUSE’s reputation for the finest design, diamonds and watches has gone from strength to strength.
